Midwest Munchers’ Foodie Crush Expands to Banking

Local food bloggers Jordan and Mike Decello support their local credit union.

When Mike and I were ready to combine finances, UW Credit Union was an obvious choice because of their great reputation for being such a solid business that gives back to the community. Plus, we like the bonus of keeping our money in a local institution.

We’re both busy people, so we don’t have a lot of time to deal with bank stuff. We wanted the convenience of seamless online banking with the option of going into a nearby branch if needed. UW Credit Union checks both those boxes.

We use the mobile app all the time to deposit checks, look at our account statements or move money around. I was a late adopter of online banking because I thought it was going to be a whole big thing to set up. It totally wasn’t. Everything is straightforward.

We also appreciate the more personal touch we get working with a credit union. They helped us navigate the overdraft process in a way that actually made the experience positive. That attention to detail and level of customer service is extraordinary.

And the kindness of the staff is unbeatable. When our three dogs were younger, I would take them to the drive-thru in the winter to get them out of the house because they were going stir crazy. The teller sent dog treats through the tube. They were really big, so I tried to break one into three pieces but it was really hard to do with my hands. In my head, the next logical course of action was to stick the treat in my mouth and bite it into thirds. As I was doing that, I looked up and the teller was just staring at me.

I was like, ‘Oh my God, she thinks I'm eating this dog treat,’ and I got so flustered that instead of clarifying what I was doing, I just sped off.

When I came back a week later, I had the same teller – she’s been there for years. She sent the dog treat out and I was like, “I just have to clarify. I wasn't eating the dog treat last time. I was trying to break it in thirds.”

Every time I went through the drive-thru after that, she would send the dog treats out through the teller window, already broken into three chunks. She remembered us. That’s amazing customer service right there.
